Job Purpose: The Assistant Head of Medical will work closely with the Head of Medical to ensure the highest level of care and performance support for players across EggChaser Rugby 7s Academy and Elite Lions and Lionesses Teams.

This role will involve overseeing the medical, rehabilitation, and injury management protocols, ensuring all players are fit, healthy, and at optimal performance levels. The Assistant Head of Medical will be instrumental in developing robust medical programs, supporting injury prevention strategies, and delivering therapeutic interventions for elite athletes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Player Health & Well-being: Monitor the health and well-being of academy and elite players, providing first-line support in injury management and overseeing the rehabilitation process to enable safe and timely returns to play.

• Medical Assessments: Conduct comprehensive physical assessments, including pre participation screenings, injury evaluations, and functional assessments, ensuring player health data is updated and utilised for personalized care.

• Injury Management & Rehabilitation: Support the development and execution of individualised injury management and rehabilitation plans tailored to player needs and timelines.

• Pitch-Side Care: Provide emergency and first-aid care during training sessions and matches, and tournaments working alongside the Head of Medical to maintain consistent, high-quality care.

• Medical Staff Management: Managing medical staff at trainings, tournaments and other sessions in the absence of the Head of Medical.

• Injury Prevention: Implement and monitor injury prevention programs, including player education on injury risks, conditioning programs, and corrective exercise initiatives.

• Collaboration with Coaching Staff: Collaborate closely with coaches and support staff, providing timely and relevant information on player medical status, participation limits, and fitness to play.

• Medical Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all players, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and legal requirements.

• Compliance & Best Practice: Ensure adherence to industry standards, regulations, and best practices, particularly regarding safeguarding, anti-doping, and data protection.

• Education & Research: Contribute to ongoing education of athletes and staff on health topics, utilising recent research and evidence-based practice to update protocols and improve outcomes.

 

Key Skills & Qualifications:

• Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sports Therapy, Physiotherapy, Sports Rehabilitation, or a related field. HCPC or CSP or BASRAT registration preferred.

• Experience: Minimum 2-3 years of experience working in high-performance sport, ideally rugby or a contact sport.

• Certifications: Pitch-side first aid qualification RFU PHICIS Level 2. Advanced trauma management training is desirable.

• Skillset: Strong clinical assessment, rehabilitation, and manual therapy skills. Experience with high-performance athletes is preferred.

• Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with players, coaches, and other support staff.

• Adaptability: Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and travel for training camps, matches, and tours both in the UK and aboard.

• Team Player: Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, with a collaborative, proactive approach to player support.

• Commitment to Player Welfare: Deep commitment to safeguarding, player welfare, and delivering player-centered care. Additional Information: This role will involve regular travel with the academy and elite teams, both domestically and internationally, requiring adaptability and commitment to the demanding schedule of elite sport.

 

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting EggChaser’s vision of developing world-class Rugby 7s athletes through comprehensive, innovative medical care and support.
